Matchday 8 of the 2nd Bundesliga: all important information
Hannover 96 – Eintracht Braunschweig
We start our preview with a real cracker derby. A game of two traditional clubs awaits us on Saturday at 13:00. Hannover 96 welcomes its direct neighbour from Braunschweig.
After a weak and disappointing pre-season, they don’t want to worry about relegation this year, but instead want to have hopes for promotion to the 96ers. And so far, things are running smoothly for the Lower Saxony. After 7 matchdays they are in 5th place in the table, 13 points are currently needed for this. This puts them only one point behind the promotion ranks and even only 3 behind leader Paderborn. After a weak start with only one point from the first three games, the Hanoverians turned off. The last 4 games were all won, three times even to 0, among other things they defeated Magdeburg with 4:0. Last week there was a 1-0 win against Rostock. In addition to this good form, the head-to-head comparison also speaks for the landlords. The last three games were all won, most recently in February 2021 with 2:1. Historically, it is 20:15 in victories for Hannover. Missing: Ernst, Evina, Ondoua, Stahl and Weydandt.
The Braunschweiger go as a promoted as a clear underdog in the season and so far it goes exactly the same way. After 7 games they are in 18th and last place in the table with only 4 points. The only positive thing about it is that the saving shore is only 1 point away. After all, they seem to have arrived a little in the league, because after 4 games without a single goal, let alone a point, they got a draw against Dusseldorf and most recently they won against Nuremberg at home with 4:2, an important victory for morale. All the points they have won so far were scored at home in their own stadium. After all, only Decarli and Strompf are missing injured.
The fact that Hannover has a great advantage over the district neighbor is also shown by the low victory rate of 1.70, while the guests have a victory rate of 4.33. Hannover have often won recently without conceding a goal, which makes the 3.20 odds for a victory of the hosts without conceding a goal exciting.
1. FC Kaiserslautern – SV Darmstadt 98
On Sunday at 13:30 there will be a real top game in the Fritz-Walter-Stadion. SV Darmstadt 98 plays at 1st FC Kaiserslautern.
As a promoted team, FCK is in 7th place in the table after 7 games. 12 points could be collected during 7 games, in addition you can have a goal difference of +3. The offense can often convince (3rd most goals), while the defense is rather one of the weaker in the upper half of the table. After a strong start (7 points in 3 games), they stumbled a bit and won only one of the last 4 games. Recently, there were two draws that could not have been more different: a 4-4 against Magdeburg and a 0-0 draw against Sandhausen. Nevertheless, this makes it clear that the shape curve does not exactly point upwards. The last direct encounter is already almost 4 years in the past, here the 1st FCK won with 2:1, historically it is 3:2 after victories for the hosts. Bakhat, Opoku and Zolinski are missing injured.
As last season, Darmstadt would like to play for promotion. After 7 match days, there are 14 points and thus a strong 4th place. With 7 goals conceded, you have the 3rd strongest defense in the whole league. Like the hosts, they could not win in the past games. Most recently, I drew twice against Heidenheim and Bielefeld. Honsak and Vilhelmsson are missing for the game injured.
Kaiserslautern has a win rate of 3.00, Darmstadt of 2.10. Since the last defeat of Darmstadt dates from Matchday 1 (0:2 against Regensburg), the double chance with victory for guest team or draw is exciting. For this there is a low but safe 1.33 rate.
