Champions League Final 2021/2022: All the important information about Real Madrid vs Liverpool

On Saturday at 21:00 the wait for the two clubs is over. Clement Turpin will then whistle the match between Liverpool and record winners Real Madrid at the Stade de France in Paris.

So far, the two clubs have met 8 times in the Champions League. Last year, Real knocked Liverpool out of the competition with an overall score of 3-1 in the quarter-finals. In 2014, Real won both games in the group stage, but in 2009 Liverpool shot out of the knockout stages with a furious 4-0 Real. There have already been two finals between the two teams. In 1981, Liverpool won 1-0 – in Paris, of all places. In 2018, Real won the final in Kiev with 3:1 against the Reds, but the Liverpool certainly want to take revenge.

On the other side are the royals from Madrid. In the league they were already crowned champions, but since they were already eliminated in the Copa del Rey, they could “only” get the double against the Reds.

The fact that Real is in the final at all is due in particular to one man: Karim Benzema. Thanks to his goals, they are only on the field in Paris and have been able to beat numerous top clubs. In the group stage, they beat Inter Milan, Sheriff Tiraspol and Shakhtar Donetsk with a score of 15 points. Already in the round of sixteen it was spectacular, when they could score with a total result of 0:2 in the second leg from the 61st minute still 3 goals against Paris St. Germain – Benzema succeeded in the hat-trick. The next top club was already waiting in the quarter-finals. The Royals and Manchester City delivered another football festival to the fans in the semi-finals, which ended 4-3 for City in the first leg, with Benzema scoring 2 goals. In the extra time of the second leg, they finally beat City 3-1 and are thus in the final of the Champions League 2021/2022. In contrast to Liverpool, Real often had to compete against top clubs.
