The Handicap Bet

Handicap bets are particularly popular with players who like to bet on favorites and assume that the favorite wins higher. Since home-high favourites usually have a very low odds, the handicap bet is a good way to get a higher odds.

With a handicap you can give an outsider a virtual advantage, which the favorite then has to catch up or win with this virtual lead jump. At the same time, however, you also have the option to choose the handicap in such a way that the outsider must hold this virtual lead if you believe that there will not be too much victory of the favorite.

For a better understanding, here are some examples based on football odds:

Team A has a normal winning rate of 1.17. For the draw there is a 7 odds and the odds on the underdog (team B) is 15.

So if you believe that Team A is the favorite to win the game, you can give Team B a virtual lead.

Handicap (0:1)
:In this example, we give the outsider a virtual lead of one goal, but bet on the favorite. The odds that team A wins this game is 1.52 in this example. Put simply, this means that Team A must win in real with at least 2 goals difference or more goals for the bet to win. But you also have the opportunity to say that the outsider holds this lead and wins with it. In this handicap, this assumption would be the same as a double chance of the underdog.

Handicap (0:2)
:In this example, we give the outsider a virtual lead of two goals, but bet on the favorite. The odds that team A wins this game is 2.40 in this example. Put simply, this means that Team A must win in real with at least 3 goals difference or more goals for the bet to win. Again, you have the opportunity to say that the outsider holds this lead and wins. The lead would be eliminated if the favorite wins with at least 2 goals difference or more. In this case, the bet would be lost. The bet wins if the favorite wins by only one goal difference, the game goes out in a draw or if the outsider even wins. Of course, depending on the betting provider, higher handicaps can also be played. The classic handicap bet is a three-way bet, so you have three options to bet on a game exit. In theory, you could also give a team a handicap and then type that the game will end with that handicap draw. However, we do not recommend this bet as it is a purely speculative bet. Another type of handicap bet is the Asian handicaps. A detailed explanation of these can be found here: https://sportwetten-olymp.com/allgemeine-tipps/asiatisches-handycap/
