Launch of the PDC Summer Series 2021
The time has come. The PDC ‚Professional Darts Corperation) Pro Tour kicks off its new season with the Super Series. It starts on Thursday 25.02.21 to 28.02.21 in Bolton.
The Super Series should be known that these are so-called Players Championship events. Such an event is played on one day, so that 4 tournaments will take place in the next 4 days. These are not broadcast on free TV (but can be watched via the PDC) and take place even under normal circumstances without viewers. The prize money and thus the appeal for the elite of darts are therefore relatively low. Nevertheless, the start of the coming season can already give the first insights into the form of the players, because it is precisely the form of new players that is likely to be exciting in view of the quota development during the season. For even lesser-known players, such tournaments are important, as they can collect first prize money to increase the money rankings. The prize money is not only important for your own livelihood, but always decides after 2 years who keeps his TourCard or not
What does the PDC Summer Series offer for betting opportunities?
Since it is a small tournament and darts is a growing sport, but still remains a fringe sport, the betting possibilities are rather mau.
Every day you can bet on the overall winner. In addition, you can still get into some betting companies live. Pre-match bets cannot be placed.
So since it is only possible to determine an overall winner before the tournaments, we only look at the odds.
Gerwyn Price and Michael van Gerwen are favourites for the first day of the tournament. Both get a 4-point odds on the tournament win. Price, as world champion, is also likely to be the best player in the world, while van Gerwen has been lagging behind in his form for months. His performances at the World Cup were good again, but the man who dominated the sport for years is no longer the world’s No.1 for the first time in seven years, but only Number 2.
The extended favourites include Peter Wright (8.0), Dimitri van den Bergh (13.0), Gary Anderson (15.0)
From a German point of view, the respective performance of players such as Martin Schindler, Max Hopp or Gabriel Clemens is interesting. All three are considered clear outsiders.
Most eyes are likely to be on Martin Schindler, who played a record average of 123.5 points in the Q-School and also threw a 9 Darter against darts legend Raymond van Barneveld. The latter announced his resignation and qualified through the Q-School, as did Martin Schindler.
Barneveld, a five-time world champion, is still considered a clear outsider.
